Search and rescue operations are still ongoing in the Spanish province of Valencia following the tragic floods. On Friday, in the town of Benetússer, rescuers found a woman alive who had spent three days trapped in a car swept away by water, Spanish media reported.
Flash floods that swept through the eastern and southern regions of Spain on Tuesday and Wednesday devastated many towns. The water took away everything in its path. There are large amounts of mud, garbage and dozens of car wrecks on the streets.
According to the latest statement from the authorities, the death toll has risen to 211, and many people are still missing. The search for victims in vehicles crushed and piled up with water and mud is still ongoing.
Woman rescued from car after three days
The Spanish Civil Defense announced that on Friday in the town of Benetússer near Valencia, they managed to rescue a woman who had spent three days trapped in a car. The car was in an underground passage.
– The President of the Civil Defense of the Valencian Community, MartÃn Pérez, delivered the good news to the 400 gathered volunteers on Friday evening, said the mayor of the municipality of Amparo Orts.
After pulling the woman out of the car and providing her with the necessary assistance, she was immediately transported to the hospital.
Over two thousand damaged cars were removed
The province of Valencia was most affected by the disaster. At the request of the regional authorities, the central government decided to send five thousand soldiers and the same number of police and gendarmes to remove the effects of the flood. About 15 thousand volunteers volunteered on Saturday to help in places destroyed by the element.
By Saturday morning, over two thousand had been removed. damaged cars and trucks and hundreds of tons of debris and mud.
