25 % duties on Mexico and Canada
A spokeswoman for the White House Karoline Leavitt confirmed that on Saturday Washington would put a 25 % duties on goods imported with Mexico and Canadaas well as 10 % duties on products imported with China. She refused to answer the question whether exceptions would be provided, e.g. in relation to oil.
President Trump, announcing the duties on imports from Mexico, Canada and China, suggested that this is a punishment for illegal immigration and smuggling fentanyl – a synthetic opioid associated in USA with the death of tens of thousands of people a year.
Mexico, Canada and China are the three largest US partners of the USA, and the customs announced by Trump may interfere with integrated supply chains in North America in such industries as automotive industry, and cause increases in food and fuel prices.
