Al-Quraishi became the fourth leader ISIS in November, when the group announced the death of his predecessor. His photos have not been released. The founder of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was killed by the forces USA in 2019.

This is the third IS leader to be killed since 2022. The late Abu al-Hasan al-Hashemi al-Quraishi took over the reins of the organization after the death of Abu Ibrahim al-Hashemi al-Quraishi, who was killed by blowing up himself and his family in February 2022 during a US airstrike in northwestern Syria.
