A suicide bomber blew himself up in front of the headquarters of the Turkish Ministry of Interior in Ankara. The second bomber was killed in an exchange of fire with security forces. Two policemen were injured.

The Associated Press reported that the attack took place a few hours before the start of the first session of the Turkish parliament after the summer break.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said that the two attackers drove a delivery car around 9:30 a.m. in front of the building of the General Directorate of Security of the Ministry of the Interior. One of them blew himself up and the other was killed in an exchange of fire with security forces. Two officers were injured in the explosion, but Yerlikaya described their injuries as minor.

Turkish media previously reported that an explosion was heard near the ministerial buildings in Ankara, and television showed footage of debris scattered on the street near the Ministry of Interior.

As described by Reuters, ambulances, fire trucks, an armored vehicle and soldiers arrived at the scene. Police blocked several nearby roads.
