An employee of the honorary consulate of Sweden in Izmir in western Turkey was shot on Tuesday, Reuters reported, citing the Swedish Foreign Ministry. The attacker was arrested.

The attack took place on the street in front of the consulate building. The victim is seriously injured and a police investigation is underway, Turkish state television reported.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sweden declined to comment on threats made to Swedish diplomatic staff and said it would not comment on security measures being taken.
