Storms have passed over Turkey, bringing gusty winds and heavy rain since the weekend. The element destroyed buildings and tore ships in the port – one of them sank after hitting the breakwater, and most of its crew disappeared. At least nine people died in the floods.

A serious accident occurred on Sunday in the Black Sea, off the coast of Zonguldak province. The Kafkametler ship, anchored at the entrance to the port of Eregli, was swept away by high waves and thrown against the breakwater. The vehicle crashed and the 12-person crew fell into the sea. Rescuers managed to find the body of one of the sailors on Monday morning. The search operation for the remaining crew members is ongoing, involving almost 800 people, 300 vehicles, two planes, a helicopter and patrol boats. It is still made difficult by unfavorable weather conditions.

The Turkish minister added that eight people died in the country as a result of the weather breakdown – three in Zonguldak province, one in Batman province and four in Diyarbakir.
In Zonguldak alone, the wind tore off the roofs of 57 schools and 43 other buildings, including houses. Significant damage was also reported in Diyarbakir, where local emergency services reported collapsed houses, flooding and mudslides. The Turkish authorities have already allocated $1.74 million for reconstruction. – reported the Daily Sabah newspaper.
