A British tourist was found dead in a hotel elevator in Turkey. “The emergency services tried to resuscitate him, but to no avail,” his uncle told the BBC. “We don't know how he got into the elevator shaft or what happened before that,” he added.

Tyler Kerry, 20, from Basildon, Essex, was holidaying with his family in Antalya, Turkey. He flew there with his grandparents Collette and Ray Kerry, girlfriend Molly and other relatives. On Friday morning, his body was found in an elevator shaft at the hotel where they were staying near Lara Beach.

Earlier, his brother Mason and cousin Nathan were looking for Tyler. The boy's uncle, Alex Price, said he was found at the bottom of the elevator shaft at 7 a.m. local time. The 20-year-old lived on the first floor of the hotel.

“An ambulance team arrived and tried to resuscitate him, but to no avail,” Price told the BBC. “We don't know how he got into the elevator shaft or what happened immediately before,” he added. He also said that the family was issued a death certificate after the autopsy was completed. They hope that the body will be returned to the country by Tuesday, they told the BBC.

He also wrote online that the family was “completely devastated” and thanked people for their “kindness and concern” after his nephew's death. The family described Tyler as “a young man full of kindness and compassion who had his whole life ahead of him.”

A spokeswoman for the British government assured: – We are helping the family of a Briton who died in Turkey.

The Tui travel agency expressed its “sincere condolences” to the boy's relatives. “We will continue to provide 24/7 support to Tyler's family during this difficult time,” a spokeswoman said. She noted that “as a police investigation is currently ongoing, they cannot provide further comments.”
