Tusk after his conversation with Zelensky. “We agreed to exchange visits”

Prime minister Donald Tusk announced that one of the topics discussed during the meeting of the Council of Ministers will be the Polish Presidency of the EU Council, which begins in the new year. Priorities for this time were to be adopted during the meeting.

– I will have a series of talks, mainly regarding the situation beyond the eastern border. Our Presidency will be co-responsible for the negotiations that may begin this winter. The Prime Minister then confirmed today's conversation about this with Volodymyr Zelensky.

“I talked to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. I thanked him for the unwavering support of friendly Poland and the implementation of another military aid package,” Zelensky wrote on X after the telephone conversation with Tusk.

“We discussed Ukraine's progress on the path of European integration and the priorities of Poland's six-month presidency of the EU Council, which will start in January. We agreed to exchange visits in the near future in order to better coordinate our joint activities,” said the Ukrainian president. PAP sources inform that a face-to-face meeting between Zelensky and Tusk may take place in the coming days and most likely on the Ukrainian side. President Ukraine after a previous telephone conversation with the Polish Prime Minister on November 20, he announced that their meeting would take place before the end of the year.

Zelensky then revealed that he had talked to Tusk about Ukraine's expectations in connection with Poland taking over the presidency of the EU Council in early 2025.

The prime minister also talked on Tuesday with the head of the CDU, possibly the next chancellor GermanFriedrich Merz, who came to Warsaw straight from Kiev, where he talked with the President of Ukraine. The meeting in Kiev was one of the topics of talks between Tusk and Merz.

Before his visit to Ukraine and Warsaw, in an interview for the German television ZDF, Merz confirmed his intention to establish a contact group with the participation of Poland in order to coordinate European policy towards Ukraine.

The Prime Minister also announced that “the day after tomorrow (Thursday), French President Emmanuel Macron will be here to inform us about the results of the Paris talks.” Tusk explained that it was about Macron's meeting with the president-elect USA Donald Trump and Zelensky in Paris.

– I am in constant contact with our Scandinavian-Baltic allies who see Poland and the Polish Presidency as the leader of future actions, the end result of which, I hope, will be peace, he emphasized. Tusk said that he talked to the Prime Minister Sweden Ulf Kristersson. He added that the Prime Minister would be in the capital in a few hours Estonia Kristen Michal, with whom she is scheduled to meet on Wednesday. – At the beginning of the presidency, we will host British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Warsaw. Poland held the presidency of the EU Council for the first time in the second half of 2011. According to the schedule, the next time will take place from January to the end of June 2025.
