My position on abortion is absolutely clear and I hope that we will not have to wait three years for these regulations to change – said Rafał Trzaskowski, the mayor of Warsaw and deputy head of the Civic Platform, in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24. He added that if he were the president, he would sign the law on this matter.
The Campus Polska Przyszłości is taking place in Olsztyn. This is the fourth edition of the event initiated by Rafal Trzaskowski.
Prime minister Donald Tusk during the first day of the event he said that “until the next elections there will be a majority in this parliament for legal abortion, in the full sense of the word”. – We will do our best to alleviate the fate of all those who feel, and rightly so, discriminated against in Poland, but for now these will be half-hearted methods – he added.
Trzaskowski: If I were president, I would sign changes to abortion
Rafał Trzaskowski, mayor of Warsaw and deputy head of the Civic Platform, commented on this statement in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24.
– I believe that we need to constantly try to find a majority for these solutions. I believe that when we have another president who is willing to support this type of solution, then the pressure on those who today often use this argument as a kind of alibi for their behavior will be so great that it may be possible to agree on liberalizing these regulations – he said.
– I believe that we need to keep putting pressure on those who do not want to support these solutions – he added.
According to Trzaskowski, there is a chance to liberalize abortion regulations after the change of the tenant in the Presidential Palace. He said that the chance for this would be provided by a president who would come from the Civic Coalition, “without prejudging who it will be”. – Our position on this matter is absolutely clear – we want to liberalize these regulations – he emphasized.
Asked whether he would sign the law on this matter if he became president, he replied: – If I were president, of course I would sign it, my position on this matter is absolutely clear and I hope that we will not have to wait three years (until the next parliamentary elections – ed.) for these regulations to change – he said.
