The WTA 1000 in Cincinnati was the only test for Iga Świątek before the US Open. The Pole had serious problems and her game was quite unstable. Suffice it to say that on the way to the semi-finals she lost two sets, which doesn't happen to her often. At this stage of the competition she faced Aryna Sabalenka. And even though she was the favourite, she ultimately lost 3:6, 3:6, although she fought until the end. The best proof of this is the fact that she capitulated only on the 10th match point!
– Aryna simply played better that day. I had my chances and opportunities to put pressure on her in that match. However, I made too many mistakes. It cannot be denied that at the beginning my serve did not work well – the 23-year-old said. The WTA ranking leader does not dwell on the defeat and is already preparing for the last Grand Slam tournament of the season. She also found time to look through social media. She congratulated, among others, Katarzyna Niewiadoma on her success, and also challenged Aleksandra Mirosław. And that's not all.
Iga Świątek responded to the meme. Briefly
A meme about Świątek has recently appeared on the internet. It shows the Polish player sitting on the bench during the match between Hubert Hurkacz and Alexander Zverev in this year's United Cup. The tennis player is looking straight ahead and is clearly looking for something. She squinted, and the author of the meme has also drawn glasses on her. He also included a telling description.
“Me, trying to spot the ball during matches in Cincinnati” – we read on the Out of Context profile of Iga Świątek on X. And the interested party herself responded to this entry the day after the defeat to Sabalenka. “Yes, yesterday I did too” – Świątek emphasized.
Fans are furious with the organizers
This meme drew attention to a problem that had been much talked about since the beginning of the tournament. Viewers complained that they couldn't see the ball that the tennis players were hitting. It was all because the colors of the court, which merged with the ball. As a result, it was difficult to see who won the action.
“Watching Iga's matches in Cincy, I mainly guess who won the point based on the players' reactions”, “Yes, it's terrible”, “This is embarrassing”, “I've already given up and just listened to see if they were calling an out”, “I was afraid I had some kind of eye problem. Thank God it wasn't just me” – wrote outraged internet users.
Now, Świątek has a few days of rest ahead of her. The US Open competition begins on Monday, August 26. The tournament will last two weeks. The Pole will try to repeat her success from two years ago, when she triumphed. Last year, she managed to reach the fourth round. Even in the event of a potential failure in the USA, she can be calm about her position in the WTA ranking..
– I am happy that I could play on a hard court before the US Open. Now I am focusing on what to do better to play well in New York – Świątek emphasized.
