“To ensure the authenticity of our user base, we must take extreme measures to remove spam and bots from our platform. Therefore, we have temporarily restricted the use of it so that we can detect and eliminate bots and other bad users that are harming the platform,” Twitter said.

In the company’s opinion, advance notification of planned activities would allow malicious actors to change their behavior so as not to be on the radar. Twitter said it was working to prevent these accounts from harvesting public Twitter user data to build AI models and manipulate people and conversations on the platform in various ways.

It was noted that the current restrictions apply to a small percentage of people using the platform, and “the impact on advertising was minimal”. The company assured that it will provide new information when the work is completed.

“While this work will never be finished, we are all deeply committed to making Twitter a better place for everyone. Sometimes, even for a brief moment, you need to slow down to speed up,” the statement added.

Changes for those using the TweetDeck application are also to come into force from August. As announced, access will be possible only for verified users.
