On Saturday evening, fans were treated to a real hit in the 5th round of the Bundesliga – Bayern Munich hosted Bayer Leverkusen at their own stadium. And just a few months ago, it would have been safe to say that Xabi Alonso's team had a greater chance of winning. After all, she recorded a series of as many as 51 matches without defeat. However, he is not doing so well this season. Three triumphs and one loss – this is Bayer's record in the German league. The rivals look better – four victories. So it was not known who would win, but no one had any doubts about one thing – the match would be full of emotions and spectacular actions. And so it was.
Rollercoaster in the first half between Bayern and Bayer. Only two goals were scored, but they were impressive
Bayern looked better from the beginning. In the first five minutes, Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala had great opportunities, but there was a lack of precision. – Bayern absolutely has this match under control – emphasized Viaplay commentators. And they were very right. Vincent Kompany's players were getting better from minute to minute and easily got into the area of the visitors' penalty area. They pushed their opponents hard, but were not effective.
However, surprisingly, it was not them who opened the scoring. To the surprise of the commentators and fans gathered at the Allianz Arena, Bayer did it in the 31st minute. And all thanks to Robert Andrich, who shot from a distance and perfectly avoided his rivals.
– What a shock! Those who are weaker in this match have many problems, they are ahead. (…) I don't believe in what I see, because it is impossible. But this is football – commentators were excited.
It didn't take long for Bayern to respond. Aleksandar Pavlović responded to Andrich's beautiful goal even more effectively in the 39th minute. He also hit a volley from distance and the stadium went crazy. – What a hit by Pavlovic! Little time, little space, but he did it fantastically. With great calm, but with such precision – commentators emphasized. No more goals were scored in the first half, but the play of both teams, especially Bayern, heralded even greater emotions in the second half.
And there were a lot of them too. Already in the 49th minute, Serge Gnabry had a great opportunity to score a goal. He took a shot, but the ball was parried at the post by the goalkeeper. The ball returned to the winger's feet, but on the rebound he hit the crossbar. The German was extremely unlucky.
And in the following minutes, Bayern did not give up, and Alonso's players mainly focused on defense. They were locked in their own half and passively watched their rivals' actions. And so, in the 78th minute, Kim Min-Jae had a chance, but again he was unlucky. – The guests are helpless, absolutely, and Bayern's players are extremely consistent – emphasized commentators.
Bayern Munich – Bayer Leverkusen 1:1
Ultimately, the match ended in a 1-1 draw, which was not satisfactory for either side. It also seems not entirely fair, especially looking at the statistics. Kompany's players absolutely crushed their rivals – 19 goal opportunities, with only three for Bayer.
Bayern maintained first place in the table – 13 points. In turn, the team from Leverkusen is in third place – 10 points. They are separated by RB Leipzig – 11 points.
