The fighting pheasants were captured on the recording in the village of Jedlice, near the Mała Panew river, by Reporter 24 Mr. Tomasz. According to the State Forests, during the breeding season, males, under the influence of mating emotions, enter territories occupied by other males. When two birds meet, a clash ensues.
The author of the recording, Mr. Tomek, said in a telephone conversation that he recorded the bird fight on Thursday morning.
– I was just going there to look for a place to fish, when suddenly I saw pheasants fighting with each other in the middle of the road. I stopped the car and started recording. Further, out of the frame, a female pheasant was probably walking, so it looks as if they were fighting for a “woman” or for the area, because as far as I know, they have their own separate places – reported Reporter 24. – I am often here, there is a river and there are a lot of birds here, including wild ducks, swans, geese and pheasants. This is a Natura 2000 area, so they can nest and live there, he added.
Pheasant fight and unique mating robe
According to the State Forests, during the breeding season, male pheasants, under the influence of mating emotions, enter territories occupied by other males. When two birds meet, there is a clash – beaks and claws are in motion.
“During the fight, pheasants crow loudly and flap their wings energetically (oh, they can tear feathers)” – wrote Nadleśnictwo Gołąbki on the Facebook profile last year. “As for the feathers themselves… It is during this special period that they have a special mating robe that shimmers in many colors in the sun – from yellow to violet” – the foresters added in the entry.
