The police recorded a truck driver overtaking a similar vehicle in Tychy on the S1 route. Such a maneuver, called the “elephant race”, has been prohibited for over a year. The driver paid a thousand zlotys for it.
At the beginning of July 2023, a ban on overtaking trucks by other trucks was introduced into road traffic regulations. Valid on motorways and expressways with two lanes in one direction. Unfortunately, not everyone follows these regulations.

On Monday afternoon, SPEED police officers in Tychy noticed the driver of an Iveco truck overtaking another truck while driving on the S1 route. The offense was recorded on the video recorder of an unmarked police car. They stopped the driver for a road check. He is a 42-year-old resident of Cieszyn County. He received a fine of PLN 1,000 and eight penalty points.
“The introduced ban on overtaking trucks by other trucks on expressways and highways with two lanes in one direction is intended to improve traffic flow on main communication routes,” the Tychy police reminds in a statement.
Even in the short video attached to the message, you can see overtaking trucks blocking the road.
The police also reminds that if the driver commits the same offense again, the fine will increase to PLN 2,000 and his account will increase by another eight penalty points.
