US Attorney General Merrick Garland announced on Thursday that one person had been arrested over the leak of secret US documents. This is 21-year-old National Guard soldier Jack Teixera. Earlier, FBI agents searched his home in Massachusetts.

“FBI agents arrested Teixeira this afternoon without incident,” Garland said in a brief statement to the Department of Justice. He added that the arrest was made “in connection with an investigation into the alleged unauthorized removal, storage and transmission of classified national defense information.”

Last week, the US media reported that top secret documents from various US agencies were posted on social media. Many of them contain information about war in Ukraine. It is known that modifications have been made to some documents, although it is not clear at what stage.

On Thursday, the New York Times was the first to reveal that the likely source of the leak was Jack Teixeira, a National Guard intelligence officer. It was he who administered the Discord discussion forum where classified documents were posted. Journalists determined this based on conversations with other members of the group and digital traces left behind by the author of the leak.
