Two overseas vacationers and a Ugandan nationwide have been killed in an assault by suspected Islamist rebels, police have stated.
The assault occurred within the Queen Elizabeth Nationwide Park – one among Uganda’s hottest conservation areas – in line with police.
“We’ve got registered a cowardly terrorist assault on two overseas vacationers and a Ugandan in Queen Elizabeth Nationwide Park,” police spokesperson Fred Enanga wrote on X, previously Twitter.
“The three have been killed, and their safari automobile burnt,” he added.
Mr Enanga stated police have been pursuing suspected members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) – an armed group aligned with Islamic State (IS).
A spokesperson for the Uganda Wildlife Authority, stated the assault occurred on the outskirts of the park on Tuesday night.
Bashir Hangi stated the authority was working with safety companies “to determine who may have carried out this heinous act”.
He didn’t give particulars on the vacationers’ nationalities.
