Ukraine. A luxury item hit by a Russian missile. It is a candidate for UNESCO

On Monday evening The Russians shelled Kharkov. Oleh Synegubov – the head of the regional military administration – reported on social media that around 9 p.m. local time (8 p.m. Polish time – ed.) some of the missiles fell on the central part of the city.

One of the bombs hit Derzhprom – a historic complex of skyscrapers from 1928 located at Freedom Square. “The hit was recorded in the administration building. Several floors were destroyed – emphasized the official.

Hundreds of windows in nearby buildings were broken. “Six people are known to have been injured – They are in light to medium condition. No serious cases were recorded,” Synagubow added.

In the next entry, the head of the Kharkiv military administration posted photos of the destroyed Derzhprom. “It is a building of national importance, a building built in the constructivist style” – he wrote.

“The occupiers attacked an iconic symbol of the city that everyone knows resident of Kharkov. This is Russian terrorism,” the official said.

Derzhprom – i.e. the House of State Industry – is the first skyscraper erected in the late 1920s in the territory of the then Soviet Union. Until 1934 – when Kharkov remained the capital of the Ukrainian SSR – it was located there most important government institutions.

During World War II Germany they tried to blow up characteristic buildingsbut in the end it didn't happen.

The Derzprom complex consists of three H-shaped buildings with: from six to eleven floors. The tallest object it is 68 meters high. In 1954, one of the first television antennas in the USSR was installed on the roof of one of the buildings – along with it the total height of the tallest tower is 108 meters.

In January 2018, by decree of the Ukrainian government, Derzhprom was listed on list of monuments of national importance. The complex is also a candidate for inclusion on UNESCO World Heritage List.
