A Russian soldier who has been hiding in the Kharkiv region in northeastern Ukraine for six months has been captured by Ukrainian forces, local media reported, citing local police. The Russian hid for half a year in abandoned buildings in a small town that was liberated by the Ukrainians in September last year.

A Russian soldier, dressed in civilian clothes, was detained in Kupiansk-Vuzlovy, Kharkiv Oblast. During the search, it turned out that he was a member of the Russian 27th motorized rifle brigade.

A 42-year-old man from the Moscow region was detained by a special-purpose police department, a message from the Interfax-Ukraine agency reads.

The city is under attack again

Before the Russian aggression, Kupiansk-Vuzlovy, which had a population of about 8,000 inhabitants, remained under occupation from February 27, 2022, i.e. from the third day of the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine.

The authorities in Kiev regained control of the town in September as a result of a Ukrainian counter-offensive in the Kharkiv region.

Recently, Kupiansk-Vuzlovy has come under fire again from Russian forces, which, according to the BBC, are on the offensive to retake control of the town.
