“The defense of Ukraine is crucial for our security”

“Defending Ukraine against Russia's brutal ambitions is crucial for our security and the security of Europe as a whole. If Putin succeeds in this aggressive war, he will not stop at the Polish border,” the British government said in a statement. It also stated that the head of government's visit to Warsaw would be aimed at deepening ties with Polish partners and providing new military support for the defense of Ukraine. “The Ukrainian armed forces continue to fight bravely, but they need our support – and they need it now,” Sunak was quoted as saying.

The statement announced that during his first face-to-face meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Sunak would seek to deepen ties between the UK and Poland on a number of issues. It is expected to offer the deployment of a squadron of RAF Typhoon fighters to conduct NATO Air Policing operations over Poland next year. In addition, to further boost trade and support British companies looking to invest in Poland, it will announce a tripling of funds available under UK Export Finance, the UK's export support mechanism, from £5 million to £15.
