The Ukrainians are consistently weakening the enemy, while retaining most of their reserve forces, assessed on Monday Jan Matveyev, an independent expert associated with the Foundation for Fighting Corruption (FBK) of the Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny. As he added, although Ukraine’s counter-offensive is progressing slowly, Russian defensive lines may soon be broken.

“The (Ukrainian army’s) progress is slow due to the extensive (Russian) minefields, artillery fire and (enemy) electronic warfare systems, as well as Russian air superiority. In addition, the aggressor’s units have consolidated in prepared positions and improved communications with each other. managed to break the first line of defense in two places – near Kamianske (in the western part of Zaporizhia Oblast – ed.) and Velyka Novosilka (in the west of Donetsk Oblast – ed.)” – reported Jan Matveyev in an interview with an independent Russian Telegram channel Maybe Objasnit ‘.

“Yes, losses were incurred, including in new Western military equipment, but not as large as claimed by Russian propaganda,” the analyst added.

In Matveyev’s opinion, the Ukrainian side has so far engaged from 1/4 to 1/3 of all forces formed for the counter-offensive, and therefore has not yet used up even half of its reserves. Such actions result from Kiev’s tactic of slowly exhausting the enemy with attacks carried out by small-numbered units.

“This (invaders) is forced to consume large amounts of ammunition and reveal artillery positions (units). The Russian defense has not collapsed anywhere yet, but there are already reports of significant personnel losses, as well as requests for urgent payment of money for (purchase of) drones. Besides, Moscow does not have any significant reserves,” the expert noted.

“Given so much tension (on the front line), the Russian defense may at some point crack like a thin eggshell. And then everything will fall apart and the Ukrainian advance will be much faster,” Matveyev predicts.

Ukrainian counter-offensive

Ukrainian troops continue counter-offensive operations on several sections of the front and have obtained some territorial gains, the American Institute for War Studies (ISW) reported in the latest reports.

Two villages were liberated in the western part of the Zaporozhye region. In the eastern part of the Zaporizhia Oblast and the western part of the Donetsk Oblast, control over six villages was restored at the same time.

The most important battles with Russian troops are no longer taking place near Bakhmut in the Donetsk region in the east of the country, but in the south, near the roads leading to the occupied cities of Mariupol and Berdyansk on the Sea of ‚Äč‚ÄčAzov, Ukraine’s deputy defense minister told the British daily “Guardian” on June 16. Hanna Malar.
