The Ukrainian company Enerhoatom reported that one of the Russian drones flew “critically close to the rector of the nuclear power plant in the Khmelnytsky Oblast.” This is another alarming announcement from Enerhoatom. Earlier, the company reported that the enemy drone was flying at a critically low altitude near the industrial area of the nuclear power plant in the Rivne Oblast.
In Monday's announcement, Enerhoatom noted that “with the arrival of the autumn-winter period, Russian troops are intensifying their energy terror at Ukrainian nuclear power plants, creating new threats to the safe operation of nuclear facilities.”
“The enemy is deliberately violating the rules of nuclear and radiation safety of power plants,” added the company's statement, which called for “an end to this as soon as possible.”
The Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant is located in the western part of Ukraine, on the outskirts of the city of Necieshin.
No-fly zone violated
At the beginning of October this year, Enerhoatom reported that the number of flights of Russian drones near nuclear power plants has recently increased many times, which may indicate that the Russians are preparing for attacks on Ukrainian nuclear infrastructure. Then, according to Enerhoatom, Russian Shaheds violated the no-fly zone around the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant (in the Mykolaiv region).
At the end of September this year, Enerhoatom warned that “an enemy drone was flying at a critically low altitude near the industrial area of a nuclear power plant in the Rivne Oblast“. “Energy terror is one of the enemy's war tactics. However, it should be stopped as soon as possible,” he stressed.
Occupation near Zaporozhye
There are three nuclear power plants in operation in Ukraine: in the Rivne Oblast (four active reactors), Khmelnytsky Oblast (two reactors) and Mykolaiv Oblast (three reactors). The nuclear power plant near Zaporozhye has been occupied by Russians since 2022.
