It is dangerous when certain Hungarian politicians try to make the security of the Euro-Atlantic space dependent on Moscow’s whims, said Oleh Nikolenko, spokesman for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He referred to the words of the deputy speaker of the Hungarian parliament, who said in an interview with a Russian newspaper that Kiev’s accession to NATO “is only possible if Russia accepts it in the form of a specific agreement.”
– Ukraine has the sovereign right to freely choose its security measures. This right has been repeatedly confirmed at the level of all NATO member states, incl Hungarian Oleh Nikolenko, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kiev, said on Monday on social media.

Deputy head of the Hungarian parliament on Russia’s “acceptance” of Ukraine’s accession to NATO
Nikolenko referred to the statement by the deputy speaker of the Hungarian parliament, Dora Duro, who told the Russian newspaper Izvestiya that Ukraine could join NATO only if Russia agreed to it.
“As long as Ukraine’s borders are questioned and armed conflict continues, even NATO’s own rules preclude Kyiv from joining the Alliance,” the Hungarian politician said.
“Without the risk of starting a war, Ukraine’s accession is possible only if Russia accepts it in the form of a specific agreement,” said the deputy speaker of the Hungarian parliament.
