– In fact, as of today, we have lost 9.2 gigawatts of electricity as a result of missile and drone attacks, which is approx. half of our possibilitiesthat we had last winter, Shmyhal said on Telethon, a Ukrainian news channel.

– In fact 42 power units are destroyed, 27 percent. large thermal power plants actually operate, 73 percent is damaged or destroyed and currently not working. 20 hydroelectric power plants are also not working today, they are damaged, that's another 1.3 gigawatts – emphasized the Prime Minister.

Denys Szmyhal calls for energy saving

Smyhal urged Ukrainians to save electricitythanks to which the country will be able to survive the summer and then the next winter.

At the same time he emphasized that Ukraine is working to rebuild the energy sector. The government wants to launch as much production capacity as possible before winter. Currently, it is crucial to secure operating facilities, restore damaged units and decentralize the energy system.

Ukraine wants more energy imports from the EU

Szmyhal also counts on increasing imports of electricity from European Union. He pointed out that the maximum possible import is 2.2 gigawatts, but so far Brussels has not allowed imports greater than 1.7 GW.

The Prime Minister assured that negotiations are currently underway with European Commission regarding increasing maximum imports.

Ukraine is to be helped in restoring the capacity of the energy sector by an international fund worth… 500 million euros.
