The Russian authorities did not confirm or deny the reports, but the inhabitants of Chuvashia were threatened with reprisals for spreading “false information”.
The Serditaja Chuvashia channel reported that 19 people were killed and at least 40 injured. Other front-line sources reported that up to 120 soldiers were killed and wounded, and that a battalion consisting mainly of Chuvash was completely routed.
Ten military vehicles were destroyed, including Kamaz trucks and UAZ vans, as the battalion’s convoy was preparing to move.
