Ukraine constantly strives for membership in the world's most powerful military alliance. The problem is the war that Kyiv is waging against Moscow.
Politicians in the West are competing with each other with new ideas express inclusion of Ukrainians do NATO. According to reports from the Financial Times, it is gaining popularity the so-called German model. The issue was to be discussed during the recent meeting of world leaders. West Germany was already a member of NATO at that time. The decision makers decided that the former East Germany will automatically join the alliance. Now the same will happen in the case of Ukraine.
The idea assumes Kiev's accession without occupied lands by Moscow with formal recognition of the state's territorial integrity. If the territories were regained, they would become part of the North Atlantic Alliance. Apparently, the former head of NATO is a big supporter of this solution Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

– Land for NATO membership is the only game at the moment, everyone knows that – said a Western official who wished to remain anonymous in an interview with a British daily. As he pointed out, “this is the only strategy on the table”, but “no one will say it out loud.”
Belsat reminds that Volodymyr Zelensky's official goal is to restore the real borders from 1991. Kyiv is skeptical about the “German model”because it is not certain whether it will receive security guarantees.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the Financial Times article. The ministry denied any consideration of territorial compromises during the recent visit of the Ukrainian delegation to the United States.
– There can be no compromises regarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine – assured the spokesman of the new minister, Andriy Sybiha.
He further emphasized that the only real path “to comprehensive, just and lasting peace” is the so-called peace formula proposed by President Zelensky.
