Odessa on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday came under rocket fire for the second night in a row. Authorities urged residents to stay in shelters. It was reported that anti-aircraft defenses repelled the attacks. “It was one hell of a night,” a spokesman for the city’s military administration said. Overnight, alerts warning of air attacks were announced in a dozen or so regions of Ukraine, including Kiev.

“Strong explosions in Odessa! Take care! We believe in air defense,” Oleksiy Honcharenko, deputy of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada, wrote on Telegram just after midnight.

Odessa authorities published photos on Telegram showing damaged buildings and port facilities. Recordings of the night shelling of Odessa also appeared on social media.

The attack was “powerful and massive,” Serhiy Bratchuk, a spokesman for the Odessa military administration, said on social media. “It was one hell of a night,” he added. He said details of the damage and casualties would be released later.

Russian retaliation

Reuters reminds that Moscow has announced retaliation after the damage to the Crimean bridge connecting the occupied Crimea with Russian territory. On Monday, shortly after the attack on the bridge, the grain agreement, which allowed for the safe export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea, expired.

According to UNMoscow’s failure to renew the agreement risks starvation all over the world.

“The Russians are trying to intimidate the whole world, especially those who want to cooperate for the grain corridor, i.e. Ukraine, Turkey and the United Nations,” commented Bratchuk. “But I think,” he added, “that all normal, rational people will look at it and say: Odessa was not, is not, and will not be. “We will act,” he declared.

Odessa is one of Ukraine’s main grain export ports.

Alarms nationwide

Overnight, air strike alerts were issued in more than a dozen districts of the country. Reuters reports that “most of Ukraine” has come under fire. According to him, the Russians conducted drone attack on Kyiv.

“A difficult night of air strikes across Ukraine, especially in the south, in Odessa,” Serhiy Popko, head of Kiev’s military administration, wrote on the Telegram channel. He confirmed that the enemy attacked Kiev.
