The new commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces will be Deputy Minister of Defense, General Oleksandr Pavlyuk. He will replace Oleksandr Syrski, appointed commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, the portal of the weekly “Zerkalo Tyzhnya” reported, citing its own sources.
General Oleksandr Pavlyuk is a former commander of the Joint Armed Forces Operations Ukraine. The website of the weekly “Zerkało Tyżnia” maintains that the application for his nomination is being prepared, and the president Volodymyr Zelensky will soon sign a decree on this matter.
Pavlyuk is to replace General Oleksandr Syrski, who became the head of the Ukrainian army after the current commander-in-chief, Valery Zaluzhny, was dismissed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The General’s Way
Pavluk was born in the Zhytomyr Oblast. He is a graduate of the National Defense University. Ivan Chernyakhovsky and the Lviv Institute of Public Administration.
In the years 1991–2006, Pawluk went from commander of a tank platoon to deputy commander of the 30th Independent Mechanized Brigade.
In 2006-2007, Pawluk commanded the Ukrainian contingent of peacekeepers in Kosovo.
Since March 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea, Pavluk – as zn.ua writes – took an active part in repelling the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. Under his command, the 24th Independent Mechanized Brigade fought for towns such as Sloviansk, Kramatorsk and Łysyczańsk. The brigade also fought for the airport in Lugansk.
Defense of the Kiev Oblast
After the outbreak of Russia’s armed invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Pavlyuk commanded the defense in the east of the country. For two months, he headed the military administration of the Kiev Oblast, securing the organization of defense and repelling Russian aggression in Kiev and the Kiev Oblast. He managed stabilization activities in the liberated territories of the Kiev Oblast.
From May 2022 to February 21, 2023 this year, Pavlyuk cooperated with Oleksandr Syrski, while he was the commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, as his deputy.
Since February 21, 2023, Oleksandr Pavlyuk has been serving as Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine.
