Ukraine-Poland border. They wanted to transport a Stradivarius violin across the border

Officers of the State Border Service of Ukraine prevented the smuggling of valuable violins. Attempts were made to transport them in the trunk through the Ukrainian-Polish border crossing. The instrument is said to be the work of Italian luthier Antonio Stradivari. They were referred for expert opinion.

Ukraine's border and customs services prevented the smuggling of Stradivarius violins, which were attempted to be exported to Poland through one of the crossings between the two countries – the State Border Service of Ukraine reported on May 3.

– Border guard officers, together with customs officers, prevented Antoni Stradivari's violin made in 1713 from being exported abroad – said in a message on Telegram.

The instrument was found in the trunk of a car that was heading to Poland. The violin was detained and sent for expert examination, informed the State Border Service of Ukraine.

The workshop of the famous Italian luthier Antonio Stradivari produced over 1,000 violins, violas and cellos, of which – it is believed – about 650 instruments have survived. According to experts, the greatest ones were created between 1700 and 1725.
