On Wednesday, the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda along with the president Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda paid a visit to Kiev in connection with the 27th anniversary of the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada Ukraine constitution in 1996. The president returned to the country on Wednesday night and at the railway station in Przemyśl gave a statement for the media summarizing the meeting.

– Another trip to Kiev to support our Ukrainian allies fighting against Russian aggression has ended. I am very glad that we were able to celebrate their Constitution Day, an important holiday, together with our neighbours. Let me remind you that a few years ago, when we had the 230th anniversary of the Constitution of May 3, we celebrated it as an important event for us. Presidents of the countries of the former Republic of Poland, our neighbors today, including the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskywere with us in Warsaw at that time. It was even more important for us to be with them on their Constitution Day in these difficult times, when Ukraine is fighting the Russian invasion – he said.

The president stressed that “it was also a day of very important political talks held in Kiev on the upcoming summit FOR THISsupport for Ukraine, international situation.

– Also everything that has happened in Russia in the last few days, exactly on Saturday. From Saturday, in a sense, it can be said to be happening, i.e. the rebellion of the Wagner Group, which we have been observing, and the decisions that are being made today. We talked about the assessment of these events by our Ukrainian neighbors, by President Volodymyr Zelensky, Prime Minister (Denys) Shmyhal, and by other Ukrainian politicians, he said.

Duda noted that he had many interesting talks in Kiev, especially in the context of his recent visit to The Hague, where he met, among others, with prime ministers of Western European countries. – I also held very important political talks about what the NATO summit will bring to Ukraine. We discussed many important issues for our cooperation, including those related to the future reconstruction of Ukraine. I hope that in the last few days that remain before the NATO summit, international consultations will certainly continue, he assured.

President Duda will go to Lithuania

The President recalled that next week he was going on an official visit to Lithuania, where he would meet, among others, with President Nauseda. – We will hold the last talks before the upcoming NATO summit. The president noted that the activities are also intended to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank, in particular in the context of the recent events that have taken place in Russia. – I think it will be very important, in a sense it will be a new topic for the NATO summit. In particular, if we compare the probable relocation of at least some soldiers of the Wagner Group to Belarus and (Evgeny) Prigozhin himself, the leader of the group. And the relocation of tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus announced by Russia, he added.

In the president’s opinion, these are topics that NATO must deal with. – This is what we will expect as allies and this will certainly be the topic of our upcoming discussions. Also work on strengthening and strengthening once again the security of the Republic of Poland, all of us, our part of Europe within the North Atlantic Alliance and supporting Ukraine at the moment so that it is able to push the Russians out of its territory as much as possible, defend itself against Russian aggression – these are the most important tasks that we are carrying out today for the security of Poland, assured Duda.

The President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, who did not participate in the briefing, also disembarked at the railway station in Przemyśl. After a short conversation with Duda, he left in a column of cars.
