Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday dismissed the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Ivan Bakanov and the prosecutor general Iryna Venediktova.
The decrees dated July 17 were published on the President’s website on Sunday night.
Performing the duties of the prosecutor general Volodymyr Zelensky entrusted the former deputy prosecutor general Oleksiy Symonenko.
As Hromadske recalled, in June Politico wrote that Bakanov allegedly may lose his position in connection with the revealed traitors in the SBU. However, the president himself said later that if he wanted to fire Bakanov, he would have done so already. He noted that after starting by Russia full-blown war against Ukraine Inspections in law enforcement agencies have been launched and staff decisions are to be made on their basis.
