The Security Service of Ukraine showed journalists fragments of the remains of the new experimental Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile, which the Russians used to attack the city of Dnieper.

Fragments of the Oreshnik (Leshchina) missile, which, according to Western and Ukrainian military experts, is a modification of the Russian model of the RS-26 Rubezh intercontinental ballistic missile, have not yet been examined, representatives of the Security Service told Western journalists on Sunday Ukraine (SBU).

The weapon, which can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads, left behind charred, distorted wires and an ashen body the size of a large winter tire, the American Associated Press agency described the find.

– It should be noted that the remains of such a missile were discovered on the territory of Ukraine for the first time – an SBU officer told journalists, without giving his name because he was not authorized to discuss this issue with the media.

The Reuters agency, which published a recording of fragments of the Russian missile, recalled that it was launched on Thursday (from the Caspian Sea region – ed.), reached a speed of 13,000 kilometers per hour and needed about 15 minutes to reach the target.

According to the findings of military intelligence in Kiev, the missile was fired from the Kapustin Yar missile range in the Astrakhan Oblast in Russia. Its maximum speed was Mach 11 (Nearly 14,000 km/h).

Oreshnik's target – as the Russian president announced on the day of the attack Vladimir Putin – there were Yuzhmash arms plants in the Dnieper.
