As reported by the agency on Saturday Interfax-Ukrainethe investigation so far has shown that on May 10, during the assault of Russian troops on Ukrainian positions in the Kharkiv Oblast, in the north-east of the country, units of the 125th brigade abandoned their combat positions. The Russian attack was repelled by Ukrainian second-line forces.

It was also established that the command of the 125th brigade and its subordinate units – the 415th independent rifle battalion, the 23rd mechanized brigade, the 172nd independent rifle battalion did not organize a proper defense of the position on the border Ukrainy with the Russian Federation.

Ukraine. Experts will assess the attitude of commanders

At this stage of the investigation, a team of military experts was appointed is to determine the course of events and analyze the orders issued by the brigade command. 25 senior officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are under investigation.

Criminal proceedings were initiated in connection with offenses under Part 4 of Art. 425 – negligent performance of military service and art. 429 – unauthorized leaving the battlefield or refusal to use weapons, Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Russian troops have been attacking the border areas of the Kharkiv Oblast since May 10. This oblast is located in the vicinity of the Belgorod Oblast Russia. According to Ukrainian and Western sources, Russian forces intend to create a 10-kilometer buffer zone in the Kharkiv Oblast, which would put Kharkiv within the range of Russian barrel artillery, while Russian logistics centers would be beyond the reach of Ukrainian troops.
