Ukrainian offensive in Kursk region

The Ukrainian army has been conducting an offensive in the Kursk region since August 6. During the offensive, several hundred Russian prisoners were brought to Ukrainian territory and bridges leading to Kursk were blown up, threatening thousands of Russian soldiers with encirclement.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called the offensive “the biggest investment” in ensuring that Ukrainian prisoners of war can return home.

Zelensky appealed to Western allies to allow them to use the weapons they have provided to attack targets deep inside Russia, Reuters reported. He explained that the lack of Western countries' consent in this regard is causing problems for the Ukrainian army, especially in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, where Russian troops have recently made progress.

Russian authorities said on Tuesday that more than 122,000 residents of Kursk region had been forced to evacuate due to the Ukrainian offensive.
