The Russians forcibly deported the inhabitants of the taken over Popasna in the Luhansk region in eastern Ukraine and robbed their homes, the head of the local military administration, Mykola Khanatov, informed on Saturday. The situation in the city is terrible. There are bodies of civilians and soldiers in the streets, buildings and infrastructure are completely destroyed.
As he said, Popasna was seized by the Russian forces on May 8, and the inhabitants were transported to occupied Pervomajsk in the same region.
– Now people were allowed to go back to Popasna on foot. It’s roughly 7 kilometers. They came back and saw that there was nothing left in the buildings. They stole everything: household appliances, furniture, things suitable for eating – said Khanatov, quoted by the Hromadske portal.
Popasna “is completely destroyed”, bodies of civilians are lying in the streets
He said there were bodies of dead civilians and soldiers on the streets of the city, which gave rise to an unpleasant smell. As he added, there are reports that Ukrainian soldiers are dead in almost every staircase.
