Ukraine. The Russian army killed 12,000 Ukrainian civilians

Since the beginning of the armed invasion, the Russians have killed at least 12,000 civilians, including 551 children, said the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Andriy Kostin. He noted that these are confirmed data, which means that this number may be much higher. Kostin also said that Ukrainian law enforcement authorities have documented almost 130,000 war crimes committed by Russians.

Andriy Kostin spoke (via videoconference) during Sunday's discussion, which took place as part of peace summit on Ukraine in Switzerland and was dedicated to the release of Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians deported to Russia. Attorney General Ukraine he said that “every day, since the outbreak of the armed invasion in February 2022, we are forced to report on an increasing number of Russian military acts committed on Ukrainian soil.”

The Ukrainian section of Radio Svoboda noted that in many cases the Ukrainian authorities are unable to conduct a proper investigation and prepare documentation – an example is the currently occupied Mariupol, where – according to estimates – there are tens of thousands of civilian deaths.

130,000 war crimes

Kostin also reported that Ukrainian law enforcement authorities have so far documented almost 130,000 war crimes committed by Russians, including 301 cases of sexual violence.

– That's an average of 150 crimes a day. Every 10 minutes, Russia commits a crime against Ukraine and Ukrainians, he said.

Dmytro Lubinec, Ukrainian spokesman human rights, in turn, said that Ukrainians in Russian captivity are subjected to systematic torture. At least 14,000 such cases have been confirmed.
