The authorities of Odessa informed that as a result of the night attack, the largest Orthodox church in the city – the Transfiguration Cathedral – was seriously damaged. There were two people in the temple at the time of the attack, both survived. However, the priest interviewed by the Suspilne portal reported that “the damage is colossal”, there was a fire.

Including the church, 25 monuments were damaged as a result of the night rocket attack Russia to Odessa, in the south Ukraine. Among the objects damaged by shells and explosions are buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries, Oleh Kiper, the head of the region’s government, announced on Sunday.

“The Russians deliberately aimed their rockets at the historic center of Odessa, which is under the protection of UNESCO. What great architects created with hard work is now being destroyed by cynical beasts,” Kiper wrote in Telegram.

Experts keep records of the damage.

Odessa regularly under fire

The night shelling of Odessa was Russia’s fifth missile attack on the city in the past week. Moscow intensified shelling of Odessa and Mykolaiv after it withdrew from the so-called grain agreement, enabling the export of Ukrainian grain and food through Black Sea ports.

According to Natalia Humeniuk, the spokeswoman for the forces in southern Ukraine, the Russians targeted the port facilities, but the inaccurate Kh-22 missiles hit the neighboring districts. Earlier, the army said at least five types of rockets were used in the attack, including calibres, iskanders and onyxes.

In the Donetsk region, the Russians attacked Chasiv Yar. The regional authorities reported that the community center where the humanitarian staff was located burned down.
