Russian military intelligence intended to carry out a terrorist attack on May 9 in Kiev, the Security Service of Ukraine prevented it, SBU spokesman Artem Dekhtyarenko told the Ukrainian media on Saturday.

“The SBU acted in advance, the perpetrators of the act of terrorism were arrested red-handed. Evidence was collected that indisputably confirms the Russian trail,” Dekhtyarenko said in a statement quoted by the Interfax-Ukraine agency.

The Ukrainian service announced that it would provide details about this operation at a later date.

Five FSB agents planning an attack on Zelensky were detained

On Tuesday, the SBU reported that five people were detained who, working for the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia, planned an attack on President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“The network, whose activities were supervised by the FSB from Moscow, included two colonels of the UDO (State Protection Directorate), who passed on secret information to the Russian Federation,” the SBU said in a statement published on Telegram.

Apart from Zelensky, the detainees were planning attacks on the head of the SBU, General Vasyl Maluk, the head of HUR military intelligence, General Kyrylo Budanov, and other high-ranking officials, it was reported.
