The story of a 10-year-old from Ukraine, who during a rocket attack suffered burn almost half of the body, inspired filmmakers. Thanks to the efforts of doctors and hard work, Roman goes to school today and starts in dance competitions. The “Romchyk” image about his fate wins awards at international festivals.
The BBC station reminded Roman Oleksiw's story on Tuesday. The 10-year-old was loud in December 2023, when the Reuters agency announced that after months of intensive rehabilitation he returned to school. A year and a half earlier, the boy was seriously injured during a rocket attack on a Ukrainian vineyard. He waited with his mother in a queue to the doctor when the bullets hit the city.
The woman was one of the 28 fatalities of that attack, and Roman's life was also threatened. The boy had a broken hand and numerous wounds from shards, and about 45 percent. His body was serious. The boy's condition was stabilized by doctors from Lviv. Later, Roman was taken to a center specializing in the treatment of burns in German Dresden. There, over 30 different operations went there. After them, he was waiting for months of rehabilitation.

His story was inspired by Kostiantyin Bidnenko to shoot the short film “Romchyk”. Talking to the BBC, the manufacturer admitted that he came up with the idea of ​​the picture when he read the article about Roman. Referring to the awards “Romchyk”, he said that the greatest distinction is for him that Roman and his father himself “really liked”. The film was appreciated at the Cambria Film Festival in California. He also qualified to participate in the Independent Days Internationales FilmFest in Karlsruhe, Germany.

– I'm already in the fourth grade of primary school. I like mathematics and drawing the most – a 10 -year -old told journalists. He also added that although he likes ice cream and pizza very much in Rome, he feels best in his hometown of Ukraine. Asked if he would like to tell other children from Ukraine, Roman encouraged that “no matter how difficult it is and no matter what is happening” they did not give up and went on – reports Vatican News.
