A Polish volunteer who was injured in Ukraine underwent surgery at a hospital in Dnieper. His condition is still serious, but stable – informed the deputy head of ZPHM Sławomir Butkiewicz. The transport of the man to Poland is planned for next Monday.

The Polish aid initiative “Nehemiah” announced on Saturday that its two volunteers were injured by Russian shelling in eastern Ukraine and are in a hospital in Dnipro. Sławomir Butkiewicz, deputy head of the Humanitarian and Medical Aid Team at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, informed on Wednesday in an interview with PAP that a severely injured Polish volunteer underwent surgery in a hospital in Dnieper. – The operation went well, in a planned manner, there were no complications, and the doctors achieved the effect they wanted to achieve – he said. He stressed that the man’s injuries are so serious that after a few days the patient will not be completely healthy.

The deputy head of ZPHM said that the condition of the volunteer is still serious, but stable. – His evacuation to Lviv is scheduled for Friday. He will stay there until Monday and on that day he will most likely be transported to Poland – said Butkiewicz. As he added, the slightly injured volunteer will be transported to Warsaw on Friday.

According to the information provided earlier by the Nehemiah Initiative, a crew of two experienced volunteers set out on March 14 for the Donetsk region to help a Ukrainian NGO, in cooperation with which they delivered gifts to those in need on the spot.

“During the last stop there was a rocket fire and both volunteers were injured. They were immediately evacuated according to medical procedures. Both are in hospital, far from the front line. (…) Both volunteers are injured: one is in a light condition and the other is in a serious condition. serious but stable,” the initiative said in a statement.

Earlier on Saturday, Anton Herashchenko, adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, announced that the car in which the volunteers were heading to the city of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region was hit by a Russian missile.

Herashchenko also published photos of the bus under fire. “Two volunteers were injured. One of them was evacuated to a hospital in (the city of) Dnipro by the Life Saving Center. I wish you a full and speedy recovery,” Herashchenko added on Twitter.
