Tons of Russian ammunition stored near occupied Mariupol have been blown up as a result of an action carried out by Ukrainian forces, the Ukrainian Navy command reported. On Wednesday night, Ukrainians attacked an ammunition depot in the Tver region in Russia.
The Ukrainian navy said Russian ammunition depots near occupied Mariupol (in Donetsk region) were blown up in “recent days,” without saying when exactly it happened. “According to confirmed data, the missile attack destroyed both the storage infrastructure and tons of ammunition that the occupiers were stockpiling for use on Ukrainian territory,” the statement said on Tuesday.
Attack on ammunition depot in Tver region
On Wednesday morning, Russian Telegram channels reported that Ukrainian forces had attacked an ammunition depot in the city of Toropets in the Tver region. A fire broke out at the base, and shells were detonated. The governor of the Tver region ordered the evacuation of residents of nearby villages.
The burning ammunition depots contained Grad, S-300 and S-400 missiles, Iskander ballistic missiles and North Korean-made KN-23 missiles, said Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Ukrainian government-affiliated Center for Counteracting Disinformation.
Russian ammunition depots and warehouses are an important target for Ukrainian forces. Military intelligence in Kiev has reported several strikes on these facilities both in the territory Russiaand annexed Crimea. The services also published recordings to confirm these reports.
