The United States is keeping a close eye on China’s actions regarding Russian requests for assistance in the war against Ukraine, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said on Monday. He added that Washington warned Beijing about the consequences of supporting Moscow in this conflict.

– We know that Russia was forced to seek (military) assistance from other partners such as Iran and North Korea. This is because we are depriving the Russian state of the resources it needs to wage war against it as effectively as possible Ukraine stressed Ned Price.

He added that any direct support from Moscow by Beijing would be quickly noticed by the US authorities. – In talks with China, including private ones, including during the meeting of the presidents (US and PRC) in Bali last November, we were very clear about any costs that China would incur if it decided to support Russia in circumventing US sanctions or to provide it with assistance (military) which would then be used against the Ukrainian people. We are watching it very closely,’ assured the representative of the American Ministry of Diplomacy.

China’s attitude towards the war in Ukraine

The authorities in Beijing do not provide Moscow with military assistance in the invasion of Ukraine, but support the Kremlin politically and propaganda. China has not condemned the aggression against Ukraine and has consistently opposed the West’s anti-Russian sanctions.

On September 15, 2022, the leader of China Xi Jinping spoke in Samarkand, Uzbekistan with Vladimir Putin. It was the first meeting of these politicians since the beginning of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. “China is ready to cooperate with Russia and assume the responsibility of a world power,” Xi said at the time.

Since the second half of October last year, when the Chinese leader was re-elected as the general secretary of the Communist Party of China, there have been signs of deepening relations between Beijing and Moscow. In late November, Xi announced that the Chinese authorities would like to expand the scope of cooperation with Russia in the field of energy.
