The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced on Wednesday that he had a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. “The open door policy remains unchanged,” said the Ukrainian leader.

Zelenskiy said on Twitter that he and Stoltenberg “exchanged information and views on diplomatic efforts to promote stability in Europe.” “We talked about the preparations for the NATO summit in June and the possible participation of Ukraine in it. The open door policy remains unchanged,” added the president.

Last Wednesday, a meeting was held in Brussels NATO-Russia Councils on the Increasing Concentration of Russian Troops in Ukraine and on the border with this country.

Stoltenberg, referring to the meeting in Brussels, admitted that it was difficult because it concerned difficult topics. – We are currently at a critical moment for European security and we must talk with Russia, among other things, to convey to it the unified position of all allies, that we will not make any compromises when it comes to principles – he said on Friday in Polish Radio’s First Program.

After the NATO-Russia meeting, the head of the Alliance emphasized that NATO confirmed its open door policy. He also informed that Russia has no veto over whether Ukraine can become a member of the Alliance. He also reported that NATO allies had called on Russia to de-escalate the situation in Ukraine. Stoltenberg noted that Russia will pay a “high price” for any aggression towards Ukraine. He also did not rule out that NATO could send additional troops to the territory of its eastern allies if Russia again used force against Ukraine.
