The Ukrainian president thanked the US president for his wishes on Ukraine’s Independence Day and support in the conflict with Russia during a telephone conversation. The White House said Joe Biden had spoken with Volodymyr Zelensky about starting training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighters.

Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on platform X (formerly Twitter) that on Thursday during a telephone conversation he thanked Joe Biden for your wishes on Independence Day Ukraine and support in the conflict with Russia.

United States played a leading role in consolidating global support for Ukraine. This decisive leadership enabled our struggle and set the course of history in the direction of good. Together we prove that freedom and independence are worth fighting for. For that, I thank President Biden, the U.S. Congress, and all Americans. You can count on Ukraine to protect our common values,” the president of Ukraine wrote after a telephone conversation with the US president.

US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also discussed on Thursday the start of training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets, the White House reported.

The leaders also discussed the acceleration by the US of issuing approvals to other countries for the transfer of F-16 fighters to Ukraine.

Denmark has 43 F-16 aircraft, of which about 30 are used on a daily basis for defense purposes.  These fighters are to be replaced with F-35s in 2024-2025.
