What is happening on the border with Poland is not about grain, but rather about politics, says the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, referring to the protests and blockades of Polish farmers and carriers. In turn, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna said that Kiev had informed the European Commission “about the situation on the Ukrainian-Polish border.”

– This is a situation that shows the erosion of solidarity every day. What is happening on our western border, the border with Poland, cannot be perceived as something normal and ordinary. We need justice, simple and clear, said the president Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in a speech published on social media.

He emphasized that only 5 percent Ukrainian agricultural exports pass through the Polish border. – The situation is not really about grain, but most likely about politics. And near Kupiańsk, near the border with Russiawhere enemy artillery fire does not stop, the news from the border with Poland simply sounds like a mockery, added the Ukrainian president.

He assessed that to overcome this situation, common, rational decisions are needed. – We must make our decisions primarily with Poles and everyone in Europe who cares about the fate of Europe – he emphasized.

Stefaniszyna: we informed the European Commission about the situation on the Ukrainian-Polish border

Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna said on Monday that Kiev had informed the European Commission “about the situation on the Ukrainian-Polish border, in particular about the occurrence of obstacles to passenger transport.”

Stefaniszyna emphasized that on Sunday, on the Polish side of the border, there was an attempt to block a passenger train from Kiev to Chełm, which was carrying 260 passengers, mostly women and children.

– We are waiting for a clear reaction from European partners to the border blockade and for the restoration of public order at the border – she added. She recalled that a meeting of the Coordination Platform for the Export and Transit of Ukrainian Agricultural Products was to be held on Tuesday in Brussels.

Sikorski: farmers pay the price for European solidarity

– We must solve the problem of Ukrainian grain and carriers so that it does not obscure the overall image of Polish solidarity with Kiev – said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday. Radosław Sikorski during the Munich Security Conference.

Poland is among the leading countries helping Ukraine, but farmers and carriers are the two groups that “pay the most direct price” for European solidarity, said the minister, who participated in the panel together with Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna. – That is why we need to solve this so that it does not obscure the overall image of Polish solidarity – said Sikorski.

Sikorski emphasized that “the problem is structural” and “under the pressure of events, Ukraine was admitted to the single market without any conditions and transition periods”, although it seemed that such solutions should be negotiated.

Protests and blockades on the border with Ukraine led by Polish farmers and carriers began in November last year. Farmers protested in this way, among others: against the European Commission’s decision to extend duty-free trade with Ukraine until 2025. On Monday, the blockades covered six border crossings, informed Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov.

The Ukrainian side estimated on Sunday that on the Polish side there were nearly 3,000. trucks were stuck waiting to cross the border.
