The British embassy in Kiev has announced the creation of a fund aimed at helping Ukraine minimize Russia’s destabilizing influence in the south and east of the country. The United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA will participate in the creation of the fund.
The establishment of the Partner Fund for a Resilient Ukraine was announced on Tuesday, the 30th anniversary of Ukrainian independence. The fund “will support Ukraine to mitigate Russia’s destabilizing impact on its southern and eastern regions,” the British Embassy said.
It will finance initiatives aimed at increasing the resilience of regions affected by the conflict. This, for example, is technical advisory assistance to the authorities and investments that create new economic opportunities and improve citizens’ access to public services in the east and south of Ukraine.
The project is to start before December this year. Great Britain, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA will participate in its creation. According to plans, it is to raise up to £ 35 million within three years.
Inauguration of the Crimean Platform in Kiev
The inaugural summit of the Crimean Platform was held in Kiev on Monday with the participation of over 40 foreign delegations. The Ukrainian side emphasized that the event was attended by representatives of all EU and NATO countries. The head of Ukrainian diplomacy emphasized that the Crimean Platform was to be a mechanism that would restore the topic of Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014, to the international agenda. It is to create a coalition of countries that will constantly deal with the problem of the peninsula in order to “de-occupy it” – announced Dmytro Kuleba.
