The Russian army shelled a church, houses and shops in Zaporozhye in southeastern Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian president’s office, said on Wednesday. He added that the Iskander missile was most likely used in the attack. Three people were killed and at least seven were injured.

Russian troops carried out an attack on the territory of the church of the holy apostles Peter and Paul belonging to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Yermak reported. The type of missile used by the Russian army is being determined, but most likely it was an Iskander, he added.

Yermak reported three dead and five wounded civilians. Local authorities said the number of injured had risen to seven. The condition of the three victims is assessed as serious.

As a result of the attack, the church was destroyed, houses and shops were damaged.

Earlier, the media reported that an explosion was heard in the city and an anti-aircraft alert was announced.

President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that this is another Russian war crime. He also vowed to retaliate for the attack. As he stressed, the Ukrainian defenders will respond to the Russian troops through actions at the front.
