Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with American television ABC that “there are signs that there may be another rebellion in Russia” and that “there are many people who could support it.” He also commented on the assurances of former US President Donald Trump that he would negotiate peace in Ukraine within one day.

– There are signs that there may be another rebellion within Russia, a revolution. Moreover, there are many people who could support him, said Volodymyr Zelensky, when asked by ABC journalists about Yevgeny Prigozhin’s rebellion, the head of the mercenary military formation Wagner Group. The President of Ukraine stated that he believed Prigozhin had political ambitions, but admitted that he did not fully know why he stopped on his way to Moscow.

Speaking about the upcoming summit in Vilnius, the Ukrainian leader assessed that he expected Ukraine to be invited to join NATO.

– If there is no consensus on Ukraine’s technical invitation to the Alliance, it will only be a matter of political will to find the right wording and issue such an invitation. That would be an important signal. NATO would declare that it is not afraid of Russia, Zelensky said. He added that he wanted his country to receive security guarantees until it joined NATO.

After the interview was published, the White House announced that such guarantees were to be discussed by the presidents of the USA and Ukraine in Vilnius.

Zelensky on Trump: He had his 24 hours to end the war

Volodymyr Zelensky also referred to former US President Donald Trump’s repeated assurances that he would end the war in Ukraine in one day.

– The very desire to end the war is beautiful. But this desire should be supported by life experiences. It seems that Donald Trump had these 24 hours during his presidency. We were at war all the time, although not on a full scale, and I assume he had that time at his disposal, but he must have had other priorities,” the Ukrainian president said. “If we’re talking about ending the war at Ukraine’s expense, in other words, to force us to give up territory, I think that way Biden could also end it in five minutes.” But we wouldn’t agree to that, he added.

Zelensky said he did not want to interfere in US domestic politics, but it was important for Ukraine to maintain US bipartisan support.

– We understand that there are some dangerous signals coming from some US politicians about reducing aid to Ukraine – he noted.

When asked about the progress of the Ukrainian counter-offensive, the Ukrainian leader admitted that it was not progressing as fast as expected. However, he added that his troops are constantly moving forward. He noted that he did not feel any pressure from the West on this matter and that Western leaders were aware of the scale of the task’s difficulty.
