Ukrainian forces continue to advance in Russia's Kursk region, but are losing ground in the Donetsk region, where Russian troops are counterattacking and gaining new territory, Politico reports. On Thursday, Ukrainian analysts from the DeepState project reported that the Russians had captured two more villages in Donbas.

Politico quotes the spokesman of the 110th Independent Mechanized Brigade, Ivan Sekach, who stated that “since Ukraine launched its offensive in Kursk Oblast, the situation in our part of the front has worsened.”

The brigade is stationed near the city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region. “We are getting even less ammunition than before, and the Russians are pressing,” Sekacz said.

Pokrovsk is located in the Ukrainian-controlled part of Donetsk Oblast, about 70 km northwest of Donetsk. The city is considered a “logistics hub for Ukrainian forces” in Donbas.

Occupied villages

On Thursday, Ukrainian analysts from the DeepState project reported that the Russians had captured two more villages in Donbas in the past 24 hours and were also moving towards others.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not confirm or deny these reports, only saying that there is intense fighting in these areas and that Kiev is concentrating its efforts on the Pokrov area in the Donetsk region.

Earlier, Mykola Koval, spokesman for the brigade fighting in Donbas, told the Ukrainian portal NV that the Russians in the Pokrov direction “are not reducing their strength”. “The enemy is storming our positions every day, there are very, very many occupiers here. It is extremely difficult to stop them,” Koval said.
