On Thursday morning, there is a rather unusual barometric situation in Poland – we found ourselves in a low-gradient pressure area. The air is almost stagnant, which has an impact on road conditions.
As tvnmeteo.pl forecaster Tomasz WakszyĆski explained, Poland found itself in a very weakly gradient atmospheric pressure area, close to the classic concept of a baroque saddle. The low and high pressure centers are located crosswise and relatively distant from our country
– This causes very little air movement in Poland, silence or weak variable winds and the accumulation of large amounts of moisture. “Old”, cooler polar sea air remains – he explained.
Fog and slippery surfaces
On TVN24, tvnmeteo.pl presenter Anna Dec explained that in the morning the pressure differences in Poland were only a few hectopascals, which translated into little air movement.
– Poland is in total gradation – she said.
The forecaster added that for this reason, there will be fogs and relatively numerous fogs in almost the entire country on Thursday morning. Some of them are freezing – it is particularly dangerous there. Additionally, in some regions, roads and sidewalks may be covered with a thin layer of ice due to the ground temperature dropping below zero at night and wet surfaces freezing.
As the sun rises, fog may appear in other regions. The phenomena are expected to gradually disappear by 10-11 a.m., but numerous fogs will remain. Only in places, especially in the south and southeast, fog may persist longer, even until the afternoon.
