Putin gives the Russians the legacy that Hitler once left to Germany. It is very sad, because it takes a long time to come out of it – said the US ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski on Saturday in Wrocław. The diplomat took part in the ceremony of presenting the Jan Nowak-Jeziorański Prize to the “Memorial” Association. He argued that “it is very important to support Ukraine, to support activists such as” Memorial “, to support Polish efforts to help Ukraine.”
The International Association of Historical and Educational, Charitable and Defense of Human Rights “Memorial”, fighting for the memory of the victims of Soviet repression, received the Jan Nowak-Jeziorański Award. The award was presented on Saturday in Wrocław.
Among the guests present at the headquarters of the National Institute Ossoliński, the US ambassador to Poland, Mark Brzezinski, visited Wrocław. – America hugs Ukraine and supports it in the fight for freedom. President Joe Biden supports “Memorial” – said the diplomat in an interview with Piotr Marciniak from TVN24.
“Putin gives the Russians the legacy that Hitler once left to Germany”
As Brzezinski said, America’s strategy was to “draw Russia into the Western world, Western business, Western approach”.
– Some Russians really want to join this and I am very sorry, because Putin really has a grip on them. Putin gives the Russians the legacy that Hitler once left to Germany. It is very sad because it takes a long time to get out of it. This is not about Russians, it is about Russia’s leaders, emphasized the ambassador.
He argued that “it is very important to support Ukraine, to support activists such as” Memorial “, to support Polish efforts to help Ukraine.” – We are in this fight together with the Ukrainians. This is the Ukrainian war against Russia, but we are with them in this war, we will continue to supply them with weapons, announced the diplomat.
“The world has never taken history so seriously”
As he said, the goal of the USA is that “the Ukrainians should win and expel every Russian soldier from their country.” – It is obvious that we support Ukrainians, but we also support diplomatic efforts in every possible way – he stressed. – If we could appeal to the rationality of the Russians, we will try to do so. Because this war has to end. There is too much on the table, too much can be spoiled – said Brzezinski.
In his opinion, “the Ukrainians show that they are very good at fighting and have a much better organized army than they thought, and now they are even better equipped than ever before.” – They have enormous charisma and have the courage to lose their lives in the fight against the Russians, the Russians are afraid of them – noted the ambassador.
– It is the world that chooses whether it wants democracy or authoritarian rule. Now we see that great superpowers can intimidate small countries where people live in a world where freedom and independence should be respected. The world has never approached history so seriously – said Brzezinski.
He stressed that the slogan “Never Again” must mean something. – It can’t just be a slogan. It must entail more than that. A description of what happened in Bucza, Mariupol, with children, with women, it should never have happened – he said.
